Kalea Abernathy
STAFF THERAPIST, LPC
(Pronouns: She/Her/Hers)
Hello! My name is Kalea Abernathy. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with training in Mental Health and Nutrition.
I view my clients through a holistic approach and believe that the key aspects of counseling are empathy, collaboration, and unconditional positive regard. With these foundational pieces, I work with my clients to create a trusting therapeutic relationship where individuals feel safe to process their past and present and feel empowered to achieve their goals. My clients and I work together not only to achieve their mental health goals but all of their wellness goals.
My clinical experience has included supporting individuals, couples, and families to address complex trauma, post traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, and ODD. I integrate multiple lenses throughout therapy such as, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, person-centered, and psychodynamic to better help and understand my clients. However, every person is different and through collaboration we will work to find an approach that fits best for you.
Background
I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a concentration in Clinical and Counseling from Colorado State University and my Master of Arts in Counseling at Northwestern University.
Before working at Hartman Counseling and Consulting, I worked with adults through grief, loss and mood disorders at The Family Institute at Northwestern University, and with children, adolescents, and their families at The Bridge Youth and Family Services.
