Our therapists make up a multi-disciplinary team of licensed social workers, clinical mental health counselors, professional counselors and marriage and family therapists. We practice from the understanding that race, ethnicity, ancestry, national origin, gender, sexuality, age, ability and national origin are all integral parts to our identities. While we practice primarily using evidence-based models, we understand that less evidence exists regarding cultural minorities, that some standard practices are based on data from the majority population, and that intervention outcomes tend to focus on individual symptoms and behaviors that may not reflect culturally relevant outcomes.

For this reason, although the list below includes many evidence-based therapeutic interventions, we understand that cultural communities, in their diverse systems of knowledge, may have ‘ways of knowing’ that do not rely on the kinds of observational and experimental measures that characterize evidence-based practice, and that paternalism and institutionalized racism have had an impact on who can access services and how practices have been researched and applied across history. (Sources included below.)

In short (long?!), we hold space for individual and collective experience as sources of knowledge that are complementary to the knowledge produced by science. Our practice, in both training and values, is able to fill in some of the gaps between Evidence Based Practice and peoples lived experiences as many counselors either represent or have worked within marginalized communities. We approach each person with curiosity and cultural humility as we work together to create a plan for care.

Our relational, client-centered therapy uses the following modalities:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)

  • Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT)

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE)

  • Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

  • Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy (a culturally sensitive, client-centered approach inclusive of mind, body, and spirit for people with any or no spiritual or religious orientation)

  • Brainspotting

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Dialectical behavior and radically open dialectical behavior skill-building (DBT/RO-DBT)— this is skill building only, not groups of formalized DBT

  • Emotionally focused therapy (EFT)

  • Narrative therapy

  • Play therapy

We offer therapy services in the following languages:

  • English and Armenian

We offer the following groups and workshops:

  • LGBTQIA+ Asian American Support Group (18+): processing and exploring identity, relationship dynamics, minority stress, and loneliness

  • Being a Gender Affirming Parent: A psycho-educational workshop for parents of gender expansive and trans* kids and teens

Kids

When working with kids, we typically meet with the parent or caregiver first for a diagnostic session to collect information, review needs, goals, expectations, and course of therapy. The second diagnostic session is with the individual child. Following the first two evaluative sessions, subsequent sessions will focus on the development and implementation of a treatment plan and may or may not include parents and/or siblings depending on needs and goals. Sessions are typically 45-55 minutes.

Counseling for kids and teens may involve school observations, attendance at IEP meetings, collaboration with other care providers, and other services outside the typical office setting. These services may or may not be covered by insurance.

Adults

We help individuals of all ages navigate a wide range of life stressors, big and small. Our clinical expertise includes treatment of anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, infertility and pregnancy loss, cancer and/or medical diagnoses, emotion regulation and stress management. Sessions are typically 45-55 minutes.

Families

Family counseling can involve yourself and anyone in your family. We usually meet with each individual member for a diagnostic evaluation and identify individual expectations and needs within the family context. Following the individual meetings, we'll then meet together as a group to formulate treatment goals and course of therapy. Sessions can be 45-90 minutes depending on the availability, schedule and needs of the family.

Supervision

We offer group or individual clinical supervision for pre-licensed clinicians toward state licensure.

CONSULTATION

We provide consultative and contractual services to schools and businesses for therapy services, groups, workshops, trainings, or as-needed following a crisis or disruptive event.
